The film “Razakar: Silent Genocide of Hyderabad,” based on the massacre by the Razakars during India’s early days of independence in Hyderabad State on the orders of the Nizam, has been well-received by audiences across India since its release on April 26.
Lead actors Raj Arjun and actress Anusuya Tripathi, along with producer Gudur Narayan Reddy, attended a special screening of the movie in Lucknow and interacted with the media. Critics and audiences are appreciative of the film.
Raj Arjun, who played a significant role in the film, emphasized the importance of producing the movie, stating that “Razakar” is a must-watch for every Indian. It sheds light on the tragedies faced by the locals who suffered under the Nizam’s regime.
“The film is a great tribute to the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,” the actor asserted. Born in Gujarat, Sardar Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India. He led several major movements during British rule and, after Independence, played a crucial role in integrating many princely states into India. His invaluable contribution to Hyderabad’s integration into India is something no Indian can forget.
Producer Gudur Narayana Reddy stated that the film narrates an essential chapter of history overlooked for the past 75 years. “Razakar” has now been released in Hindi along with South Indian languages, allowing every individual in the country to learn about the dark chapter of Hyderabad’s history.
“Through special screenings in Lucknow, we aim to highlight the atrocities committed by the Razakars, which can be compared to those of Hitler,” he explained.
The trailer depicts atrocities against women, children, and the elderly alike. How Nizam’s order to ban the chant of the Omkara and saffron color has enraged the Hindus of Hyderabad State is vividly portrayed in the movie.
As the trailer shows, Sardar Patel’s message warning the Nizam that Hyderabad must integrate with India or face the consequences resonates well with the audience.
It also shows that amidst the brutality and genocide, the brave warriors of freedom fought with firm resolve. The Indian Army and freedom fighters unite to initiate a bloody battle against the Razakars.
Sardar Patel’s dialogue, “ना संधि ना समर्पण अब बस युद्ध होगा” (“No treaty, no surrender, only war now”), instills a sense of fervor among the audience.
